Council tax discounts in Dénia

Spanish councils may reduce two taxes for solar self-consumption: the IBI (Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles, the annual property tax, by up to 50% under national law) and the ICIO (Impuesto sobre Construcciones, Instalaciones y Obras, paid once on the works, by up to 95%). Both are optional for each council, which is why the figures differ from town to town. Our comparison of 21 cities (in Spanish) shows how widely they vary.

How much a system produces in Dénia

PVGIS, the free tool of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, gives 1,621 kWh per year for each kWp installed at Dénia (38.841, 0.106), with panels facing south at the optimal tilt (36°), 14% system losses and 2039 kWh/m² of yearly irradiation on the panels. A 5 kWp system would therefore produce roughly 8,105 kWh a year. A roof that does not face south, or that is shaded, will produce less: your installer should model your actual roof.

Licence and paperwork in Dénia

The council’s e-office has a procedure for a responsible declaration for photovoltaic installations on the roofs of dwellings: the building must be legally built, the system coplanar with the roof and up to 10 kW, with a technical memory by a competent technician and proof of payment of fees and ICIO. It takes effect on submission, and the council may inspect afterwards.

The steps that are the same everywhere in Spain (registering the installation, the surplus-energy contract, what changes on your bill) are explained in our guide to solar panels in Spain for foreign homeowners.

Particularities for Dénia

Dénia’s scale rewards lower cadastral values: for a villa above €150,000 the IBI bonus is 20% for three years and 10% for two. The calculator on this site applies the table if you enter your cadastral value (it is on your IBI receipt).

Les Marines, Les Rotes and the other coastal areas are inside the municipality and follow the same ordinances.
